Repurposing this trio of 1930s buildings, it serves as a vehicle of joinery, translucency, fibrous binding, and charring of pine in order to celebrate this renewable material. Public memory is established through a material dichotomy communicating the existing and the intervention. The idea of re-use is present down to the scale of furniture with decorative face blocks from the building interaction, through cable spools as tables, and bicycle wheels in an interactive bench. Programs of wine tasting, performance, community garden, retail, and continuing education were written into the script with enough flexibility to accommodate a variety of events. Connecting West Emma Avenue and the distant Luther George Park, the proposal marks a community hub for the city of Springdale, Arkansas.
